Mountaineering
The highest mountain of Turkey, legendary Mt Ararat, is one of the best-known of all mountains because of its biblical attribution as the final resting place of Noah's Ark (as related in Genesis 8:4). A huge inactive volcano towering above the arid steppe of Eastern Turkey connects the borders of Armenia, Iran and Turkey. From the summit an over view of the cradle of ancient civilizations can be seen, high above the cloud line, it is simply stunning.
Ideal for those who enjoy intensive trekking. This tour includes a level of difficulty at high altitude.

Trip Notes
- Trip starts/ends in Van. Van has an airport but it is only for domestic flights. So it can be a good idea to fly Istanbul first and find a connection from there.
- This trip is graded "Difficulty IIII" - This is where it gets serious. At this level we recommend previous experience of the activity involved, as conditions will be tough. You need complete confidence in your physical condition and your ability to participate in the activity, perhaps for long periods of time, over consecutive days or under difficult circumstances. Trips may experience high altitude, extremes of temperature, remoteness, long days or difficult terrain. Tough trips represent the ideal grade for those experienced in adventure travel who want to push themselves out of their everyday comfort zone.
- You can combine this trip with any of our Istanbul, Cappadocia or Lycian Way itineraries.
